SYRACUSE — Baldwinsville girls swimmer Noelle Staso had second and third-place finishes in two different races to lead the Baldwinsville girls swim team during last Friday’s Section III Class A championship meet at Nottingham High School.
Staso had her best showing in the 100-yard butterfly, where she posted a time of one minute, 1.55 seconds, beating everyone except Oswego’s Caitlin Gorton, who prevailed in 59.01 seconds over Staso and West Genesee’s Miki Riley (1:03.42).
Meanwhile, in the 50 freestyle, Staso posted 25.14 seconds, which landed her in third place, just 0.01 seconds behind Auburn’s Kennedy Wilson (25.13 seconds) for the runner-up spot behind another Oswego star, Mariah Metcalf, who took the race in 24.46 seconds.
As a team, B’ville had 207 points, putting them in seventh place, while Cicero-North Syracuse, who was 10-0 in the CNY Counties League this fall, took the sectional team crown with 356 points.
Amanda Johnson swam the 100 backstroke in 1:05.18 and finished fifth, also getting to sixth place in the 100 freestyle in 58.73 seconds, while Grace Smith made it to sixth place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.34, just ahead of Lauren Burchill (1:14.14) in eighth place.
B’ville also took fifth place in the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:00.74, with the 200 freestyle relay side posting 1:56.40 for seventh place and the 400 freestyle relay side claiming that same spot in 3:59.82.
Erin Mordaunt swam the 200 individual medley in 2:31.58 and later had a 1:07.86 in the 100 backstroke behind Johnson, with Allison Lange finishing in 1:11.05.
