SYRACUSE – In its second meet of the winter, the Cazenovia boys indoor track and team went up against many large schools during the morning session of last Sunday’s Oscar B. Jensen Memorial Relays at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
Led by Jaden Kaplan, the Lakers held up well, its total of 41.5 points best among small schools in the 20-team field and sixth overall. Cicero-North Syracuse took the top spot with 74 points.
Kaplan swept two sprints, going 38.74 seconds in the 300-meter dash to beat the 39.00 of C-NS’s Sean Graves an dominating the 600-meter run, his time of 1:29.05 nearly three seconds ahead of the 1:32.02 from Westhill’s Carter Buckman as Branden McColm was seventh in 1:33.55.
McColm also took third place at 1,000 meters in 2:51.94 ahead of Will Austin (3:03.40) in 10th place as McColm got sixth place in the 1,600-meter run in 4:51.51, with Austin ninth in 4:59.51.
Killian Blouin cleared 9 feet 6 inches in the pole vault and finished third. Connor Frisbie also got seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.23 seconds while clearing 5’4” in the high jump for 10th place. . Alex Ramirez put up a fourth-place weight throw of 43’2”, with Chris Kelly (35’1”) in 10th place.
Chittenango competed in the afternoon session of the Jensen meet, the Bears finishing sixth on both sides with 42 points in the girls meet and 40 points in the boys meet.
Caleb LeBlanc gave Chittenango a win in the boys 1,000, zipping to a time of 2:45.10 as no one else in the field broke the 2:50 mark. LeBlanc added a fifth in the 300 in 39.66 seconds.
Joseph Lin cleared 5’6” for second place in the high jump and was third in the 55 hurdles, going 8.81 seconds as Connor Brooks (9.84) was seventh. Shamus Eiffe took fifth place in the 600 in 1:36.72
Another win was earned by the girls Bears in the long jump thanks to Jordan Wagner, whose best leap was 15’5 1/4” as Homer’s Jane Gugerty (15’2”) was second. Wagner added a sixth in the 300. Allie Barttoszek put up a second-place triple jump of 30’2 3/4” to go with a fourth (10.24 seconds) in the 55 hurdles.
Laura Powers ran the 1,000 in 3:27.98 and gained third place. Miranda Danaher threw the shot put 25’4” to gain fifth place, while Sophia DiGennaro was sixth in the 600. Evelyn Wynkoop was seventh and Ava McLeah eighth in the 1,500-meter run.
