Salina — Taxpayers in the town of Salina will pay less than a dollar a month more in town taxes next year.
The town board held a special meeting Wednesday, Nov. 18, to approve the $12,648,303 budget, as well as the special districts budget.
“Due to the Salina Town Board’s efforts, the 2016 budget is $25,466 under the tax cap,” Supervisor Mark Nicotra said in a release. “Because of the due diligence and cooperation between town board members, the 2016 budget provides tax stability with an outlook towards future needs. When board members and department heads work together, all the residents of Salina benefit.”
The budget included expected increases in employee benefits and contractual obligations, as well as continued payments on the town landfill and wastewater treatment plant. It calls for a tax increase of $0.60 per month on a $100,000 home outside the village of Liverpool, amounting to $7.20 a year. Meanwhile, a homeowner within the village with a home assessed at $100,000 will pay an additional $0.99 a month in 2016, or $11.88 a year.
