Hockey Bees fall to Solvay, Ithaca

A single game marked the season-long inconsistency of the Baldwinsville ice hockey team as it took a 7-4 defeat to Solvay last Tuesday night at State Fair Coliseum.

It started just fine, with B’ville moving to a 2-1 lead in the first period. But Solvay then took full advantage of some defensive breakdowns, roaring ahead 5-3 by the time the second period was done. The Bees closed within 5-4 in the final period, only to see Solvay get clear once more.

Parker Ferrigan still had two goals and one assist, while James Wadsworth put up one goal and one assist and Matt Zandri also converted. Solvay saw Tom Missert and Mike Sniffen each earn two goals and one assist.

Then it was back to Lysander for Friday’s Senior Night festivities and an exciting contest against Ithaca where the Bees staged a third-period comeback, only to fall in overtime to the Little Red 4-3.

As a tribute to the work he had done with the program, Brian Tedd got the start in goal. And he would make 11 saves, keeping B’ville even 1-1 through one period as Tom Ancillotti notched the goal for the home side.

Ithaca would surge ahead, 3-1, in the second period, but in the final period Ferrigan brought B’ville even with back-to-back goals to force overtime. But Ithaca would have the final surge.

Despite all these ups and downs, the Bees will be one of the eight qualifiers for the Section III Division I playoffs and close the regular season this Friday playing Liverpool at State Fair Coliseum.
