Now on the brink of a second consecutive undefeated regular season, the Canastota girls volleyball team returned from its brief respite and sailed past Hamilton Friday night in a four-game decision.
Jessica Patterelli made history earlier this month as the first Section III player ever to surpass 2,000 assists for her high school career.
And it was Patterelli that helped kick-start the Raiders after a surprising 26-24 loss in the first game to the Emerald Knights. Her all-around talents helped Canastota dominate the second game 25-6, then win the next two games 25-16 and 25-19.
All told, Patterelli had 27 assists to add to the record total, plus 14 kills and nine digs. Stephanie Thornton had eight kills, while Melissa Krak and Hallie Chandler each had six kills. Tracy O’Hern piled up 10 blocks and three kills. Samantha
McCarthy, with 25 digs, and Katelyn Rounds, with 13 digs, led the defensive effort.
This came a night after Hamilton swept Stockbridge Valley 25-12, 25-20, 25-19 to all but clinch a winning record as it briefly improved its mark to 9-6.
Morgan Brooks had three kills and three aces, with Emily Powrie posting five kills and Marissa Stits adding four kills. Rachel Holcomb picked up four assists.
