J-D/CBA swimmers handle Mexico, Fulton

Fresh off winning most of the races in the Jan. 15 Onondaga High School League meet at Mexico, the Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA boys swim team had another encounter with Mexico Tuesday and roared past the Tigers 119-66.

Eric Jorgensen tore to a time of 49.86 seconds in the 100 freestyle, this after earning an impressive 200 freestyle victory in 1:50.54.

Cole Speidel needed 2:12.03 to prevail in the 200 individual medley, and followed it up with a win in the 100 butterfly in 57.29 seconds. Also, titles went to Ryan Byrnes (50 freestyle, 24.22 seconds), Josh Lacey (500 freestyle, 5:05.52) and

Garrett Farchione (100 backstroke, 1:02.23).

Farchione, Byrnes, Jorgensen and Matt Kopp needed 1:37.41 to win the 200 freestyle relay after an opening 200 medley relay where Speidel, Kopp and Farchione joined Zach Shaw and got first place in 1:51.54.

With little time to rest, J-D/CBA returned on Thursday night and beat Fulton 93-75.

Speidel won twice, taking the 500 freestyle (5:05.70) before swimming the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.84, while Farchione prevailed in the 200 IM in 2:15.84.

Others got a chance to shine, too, as wins went to Ben Katsarski (200 freestyle, 2:11.34), Jack Martin (50 freestyle, 26.45 seconds), Charlie Scheftic (100 butterfly, 1:05.26), Tom Keane (100 freestyle, 56.66 seconds) and Julien Bascaran (100 backstroke, 1:11.16). Byrnes, Jorgensen, Speidel and Katsarski needed 1:54.84 to win the 200 medley relay.

Fayetteville-Manlius, its schedule constantly affected by weather this winter, did get in the pool on Wednesday night, where the Hornets and Oswego both finished with 93 points.

Jack Robinson and Ryan Kelley both won twice on the individual side. Robinson was impressive in the 500 freestyle, winning in 4:55.99 and also tearing through the 100 backstroke in 56.36 seconds, while Kelley was first in the 200 IM (2:14.03) and swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:03 flat.

Kevin Koh helped Robinson, Kelley and Will Twichell dominate the 200 medley relay in 1:42.30, after which Koh claimed the 100 butterfly in 54.54 seconds. Matt Beach added a key victory in diving with 181.25 points.

Oswego took the other two relays, the 200 freestyle (1:31.13) and 400 freestyle (3:29.31), with some of the best times of the season as its star swimmer, Drake Becksted, swept the 50 freestyle (22.54 seconds) and 100 freestyle (47.32 seconds) sprint events.
