CNS Blue shot a 425, seventh in a 12-team field, as Liverpool finished eighth in 431 and CNS Green had an 11th-place total of 447. West Genesee beat Fayetteville-Manlius in a sixth-player tie-breaker for the team title after both finished at 393.
Going for 18 holes, the Warriors’ Paul Hagen stepped up to shoot a 78, good for a tie for sixth place, four shots behind Oswego’s Luke Boshart. Hagen’s teammate, John Anthony, added an 80, a number that three CNS players – Mike Mento, Wes Sprague and Mike Cavallo – also reached.
Hagen, Anthony, Mento, Sprague and Cavallo all qualified to go to Colgate University’s Seven Oaks course in the late spring of 2011 for the overall Section III championships.
Liverpool had improved its mark last Monday afternoon, enduring the rain to beat Henninger 194-200 at Brooklawn. Anthony and Connor Weakley each shot 38, two shots behind the Black Knights’ Bobby Moro (36), who led all individuals.
The Warriors then fell to Fayetteville-Manlius 194-206 at Liverpool Country Club. Weakley shot a 39, but that was three shots behind the Hornets’ Ryan Fero and Tyler Ramie. Eric Corp put together a 40 and Sean Martens contributed a 41.
And on Wednesday afternoon at Highland Park, Liverpool took a 196-205 defeat to Auburn. Amazingly, all five of the Warriors’ top players – Weakley, Corp, Andrew VanMarter, David Pisciarino and Ryan Contegni – shot 41, but Maroons teammates Nikita Rosenbaum (37) and Tim Daniels (38) topped them.
As for Cicero-North Syracuse’s Blue team, it earned a 189-197 victory over Oswego last Tuesday at Northern Pines, a day after beating Auburn 207-210.
Cavallo, who shot a 36, had the best score by two shots against the Buccaneers. Three of his Northstars teammates -Mento, Damian George and Eric Misiaszek – were also on that number, joined by the Bucs’ Colin Joyce. Frank Volino Jr. added a 39 for CNS Blue.
When CNS Blue visited Highland Park to face Auburn the day before, Rosenblum shot a 37 to beat George (38) by one shot. However, two of George’s teammates, Cavallo (40) and Volino (42), finished in front of the Maroons’ Mike McLaughlin, who matched Wes Sprague with a 43.
CNS’s Green team lost to Central Square by a single shot, 215-216, at Greenview. Kevin Stone shot a 40, the top individual total, as Tyler Dubois added a 41.
