F-M volleyball teams take losses

At the end of a rough week that already had included a pair of losses, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls volleyball team had to endure a trip to Baldwinsville, the reigning Class AA dynasty.

Again, the Hornets lost to the Bees, only getting close in the second game of a 25-14, 25-19, 25-5 decision. Alexis Rios had four kills and two digs, while Heather Cooper got three kills and three digs. Brianna Stewart led B’ville with six assists and four aces.

For F-M, the week began with a trip to Buckley Gym and a loss to Cazenovia, who moved from the winter to the fall in order to compete for a state championship.

Stephanie Bousquet earned 13 assists, her passes often going to Heather Cooper, who earned six kills. Kristen Russell added three kills. Cazenovia’s Chelsea Lauria gave her side 16 assists as Lizzy Reed (eight kills, eight digs) and Amber Robinson (six kills) led up front.

Wednesday’s match with Central Square brought more frustration as the Hornets fell in four games to the Red Hawks.

Both of the first two games ended 25-21 in Central Square’s favor. F-M prolonged the match by winning the third game 25-17, but struggled in the fourth game as the Red Hawks, by a 25-15 margin, closed it out.

Alexis Rios picked up 13 kills, adding eight digs, with Russell and Jillian Schwab each contributing seven kills. Cooper and Erin DaRin each had seven digs as Cooper also put up five kills. Bousquet finished with 28 assists and seven digs as Shannon DaRin got seven digs. Sheena Dignean (10 kills) and Catie Shelton (25 assists) led Central Square’s effort.

The F-M boys team returned to action Thursday night, unable to snag any games in a 25-18, 25-13, 25-19 loss to Central Square.

Matt Nash finished with nine assists as Nick Zamelis picked up three digs, two kills and two blocks. Parker Harris had three kills and two blocks.
