An outstanding fall put together by the Baldwinsville boys golf team would culminate in a pair of high-profile events.
First, the Bees took on Fayetteville-Manlius last Monday at Radisson Greens. On a course where it had not lost all season, B’ville finally took a blemish, falling to the Hornets 197-203.
Luke Ciulla, with a nine-hole score of 35 (one under par), had the top individual score by three shots over F-M’s Ryan Fero. But Fero’s teammates, Sean Wildhack and Kevin Ralph, each shot 39 in front of Brendan Polsin’s 40, giving the Hornets the depth it needed to prevail.
Then the Bees went to Green Lakes State Park for Thursday’s Section III Class AA tournament, where it landed in fifth place with a score of 420. West Genesee edged F-M for the title based on a tie-breaker after both finished at 393.
Most of the Bees had some difficulty with the Green Lakes course – but Ciulla and Dan Wright both shot 81 and qualified for the overall Section III tournament, to be held late in the spring of 2011 at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks course.
