CNS volleyball gets key win over Oswego

With early control of the CNY Counties League at stake, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys volleyball team went to Oswego Wednesday night and knocked off the Buccanneers in four games.

Starting strong, the Northstars cruised through the opening game 25-14, then got tangled up in a close second game where both sides had chances to win before Oswego prevailed 28-26.

Furious at that result, CNS claimed victory in the third game 25-19, then improved in the fourth game to close out the match in a 25-17 decision.

Jim Coleman accumulated nearly 10 assists per game and 39 assists overall. Ethan Irish had 17 kill and five aces, while Tyler A. Smith picked up 15 kills and four assists.

Billy Werksman got nine kills as Adam Collins (eight digs) and Steve Fishel (seven digs) worked on the defensive side. For Oswego, Mike Thompson had 11 blocks and seven kills as Kevin Carpentier earned 19 assists.
