Neither of Jamesville-DeWitt’s undefeated lacrosse teams received serious threats in the first full week of May.
In the case of the boys Red Rams, it plowed past Fulton 17-3 last Tuesday night at Central Square’s turf after an early slowdown.
Fulton, outmatched, kept the ball away much of the first quarter and only trailed 1-0. Fuming at that, J-D proceeded to score an average of one goal per minute in a
12-goal eruption during the second period.
Eric DeJohn and Jake Bratek each got four goals, while Joe Shepard and Pete Goss found the net twice. Five others — Alex Hatem, Ed Kiesa, Jordan Evans, Brad Diamond and Drew Wanamaker — scored, with Cam Stone getting three assists. Tim Edwards joined DeJohn, Evans and Kiesa with single assists.
When a vastly improved 6-5 team from Whitesboro showed up on Thursday night, the Red Rams gave the Warriors a rude greeting in the form of a 19-4 defeat.
The domination began in the second quarter, where J-D, already with a 5-2 lead, went on a 7-1 blitz, then blanked Whitesboro in the third period before resting its starters.
DeJohn and Bratek again set the pace, with five goals apiece, as DeJohn added two assists. Stone took a larger role, too, as he gained three goals and three assists.
Evans scored twice as Edwards, Hatem and Wanamaker also scored. Even Dan DiStefano took a break from his goalie duties (Rob Fix saw time in the net, too) to get his first goal of the season in the field.
The J-D girls team, in its only game last week, tamed Chittenango 16-6 on Tuesday afternoon, keeping everyone on the Bears except Jenna Barber from scoring a goal — and five of those came in the second half, after the Red Rams raced out to a 9-1 lead.
Ashriel West had a part in half of J-D’s scoring plays, finishing with five goals and three assists. Taylor Bierwagen (three goals, two assists) and Tori Nies (two goals, three assists) each got five points, with Morgan Freeman and Lauren Swan each matching that two-goal output. Taylor Fallon and Frannie Haunfeiner had the other goals, with Liz Beville joining Fallon in the assist column.
Now the J-D girls look to games next week against Fulton and Mexico. The boys Red Rams play Homer and East Syracuse-Minoa before going to Carthage next Saturday.
