All is in place for the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams as they get set to host archrival Liverpool in a two-day series of meets next week at Bragman Stadium.
Both sets of Northstars won on Wednesday afternoon against Utica Proctor, a tough pair of contests where the boys prevailed 79-62 and the CNS girls beat the Raiders by a score of 77-64.
As expected, the CNS boys dominated the distance events as Chris Buchanan claimed the 3,200-meter run in 10:21.4 and zooming through the mile in 4:41.4.
Jared Walther claimed the 800-meter run in 2:07.1 as Rob Donadio, Neil Gill, Dan Fritz and Tom McAndrew worked together to take the 4×800 relay in 9:59.6.
Field events proved important, too, as Jared Thomson threw the shot put 47 feet 3 inches and finished a close second (134 feet 8 inches) to Proctor’s Sage Cobbs (136 feet 7 inches) in the discus. Carl Patzer cleared 6 feet 2 inches to win the high jump as Brendan Ryan and Cameron Shaughnessy both cleared 11 feet in the pole vault.
CNS took two of the three relays, prevailing in the 4×100 as Matt Ryle, Andrew Johnson, Mark Broughton and Ryan Connor put up a time of 44.4 seconds. Johnson also took second (23.5 seconds) in the 200-meter dash as Eric Munoz got second (52.7 seconds) in the 400-meter dash.
Proctor’s Richard Pete had three wins in the 200-meter dash, long jump and triple jump, while Will Hawkins won the 100 and 400 sprints and helped the Raiders take the 4×400 relay.
Over in the girls meet, Jasmine Thompson got three titles, covering the 100-meter high hurdles in 14.8 seconds, clearing 5 feet 4 inches in the high jump and going 37 feet 8 inches in the triple jump.
Casey Wilmer won the shot put with a toss of 34 feet 3 inches as Valerie Langevin heaved the discus 103 feet 10 1/2 inches. CNS also swept the distance races, with Lori Holmes taking the 800 (2:48.6), Shannon Davis the 1,500 (5:43.9) and Jackie Halstead the 3,000 (11:54.3).
Proctor lost despite Geannitta McClain winning three times, in the 100-meter dash (12.0 seconds), 200-meter dash (25.4 seconds) and long jump, where she soared 17 feet 9 inches.
