Rachel Betts’ pair of individual titles keyed the effort of the Jordan-Elbridge girls track and field team as it beat Westhill 88-53 and Christian Brothers Academy 98-42 on a warm, windy Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors also beat the Brothers 74-58.
Betts would run the 100-meter dash in 13.5 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 28.4 seconds, then team with Rachel Scott, Brianna Byrnes and McKenzie Williams to claim the 4×100 relay in 53.7 seconds.
Scott was victorious in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.8) and helped Williams, Rachel Hare and Kim Foltz prevail in the 4×400 relay (4:27.9). In field events, J-E’s Megan Greenwood won the shot put (28 feet 3 inches) and Kathryn Alonso-Bergevin claimed the discus with a throw of 65 feet 11 inches.
Westhill had a handful of wins, too. Katie Powers needed 2:35.7 to prevail at 800 meters, while Susan Lopez took the 3,000-meter run (12:00.9) and Briana Newman needed 1:07.5 to claim the 400-meter dash.
Meanwhile, the Westhill and J-E boys teams confronted the OHSL Liberty division front-runners. The Warriors beat the Eagles 90-51, but both sides finished behind CBA, who rode Tre Williams’ quartet of vicotries to beat Westhill 75-66 and J-E 90-51.
Snatching points everywhere, Williams won the 200 (23.2 seconds) and long jump (20 feet 10 1/2 inches),then got titles in the triple jump and high jump, too.
Westhill’s Tom Fisher won the discus with a throw of 144 feet 5 inches and tossed the shot put 47 feet 1 1/2 inches to win there, too. Kevin Zych impressed as he beat a strong field in the mile with a time of 4:36.5.
Jack Honis prevailed twice, in the 110 high hurdles (16.1 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:00.8), and teamed with Matt Trendowski, Peter Clark and Tim Sheridan to take the 4×400 relay in 3:43.9. In the 4×100, Clark, Trendowski, Ross and Justin Biles blazed to a victory in 46.6 seconds.
