Chittenango track hosts invitational meet

With the winter-like weather of the early week long gone, summer-like conditions settled in as Chittenango’s track and field teams hosted its annual invitational meet on Saturday afternoon.

And both home teams would make an impact. The girls Bears finished seventh out of 13 entries with 35 points, while the boys Bears had 23.5 points to take eighth place.

Courtney Dyer won the girls 100-meter dash, edging out Cazenovia’s Ashley Winn, 12.90 seconds to 12.99. Dyer also teamed with Meredith Furtado, Theresa Parascendola and Alyssa Giarosso for third place in the 4×100 relay in 53.21 seconds.

Alyssa Endres worked her way to second place in the discus, tossing it 84 feet 5 inches. Brittney Tirabassi earned fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles (18.06 seconds), while Hannah Murphy was fourth in the unseeded mile. Tirabassi cleared 7 feet to finish fifth in the pole vault and cleared 4 feet 8 inches for sixth place in the high jump and Maize Zamlowski got sixth in the triple jump.

On the boys end, Bruce Gondeck contended in the pentathlon, winning the 1,500-meter portion in 4:41.35 on his way to a second-place total of 2,830 points, not far behind Chris Ruggeri (Fayetteville-Manlius), who won with 2,951 points.

Brian Bohne ran to third in the 100 in 11.50 seconds. John Laplante took fifth in the pole vault (9 feet). Austin Nojaim and Chris Ingerson were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles, with Laplante, Bohne, Bill Buck and Tyler Howd taking sixth (49.23 seconds) in the 4×100 relay.

From a team standpoint, Cicero-North Syracuse’s girls (114 points) and Watertown’s boys (89 points) finished on top. F-M swept the highlighted Fleet Feet Mile races, as Alex Hatz took the boys event in 4:11.51 and Courtney Chapman needed 4:54.10 to prevail in the girls race.

The Chittenango girls managed a split of its April 14

three-way meet against Fowler and Homer, beating the Falcons 97-43 but losing to the Trojans 72-68.

Dyer led the Bears, taking both the 100-meter dash (12.9 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.2 seconds) and teaming with Giarosso, Parascondola and Furtado for a top time of 54.8 seconds in the 4×100 relay.

In field events, Chittenango had Katrina Karbowniczak clear 4 feet 8 inches to win the high jump, while Endres took the discus (81 feet 5 inches) and Tirabassi prevailed in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet.
