While an undefeated season and OHSL Liberty division regular-season title was nice, the Skaneateles girls volleyball team really wanted the big prize — a Section III Class B title, something it has not done since 1998.
In the first step of that Class B playoff journey, the no. 2 seed Lakers hosted no. 7 seed Lowville, who ousted Jordan-Elbridge in the opening round.
With power and efficiency, Skaneateles swept the Red Raiders, taking the first game 25-12 and breezing through the next two games by equal 25-18 margins.
Up front, the seniors ruled again as Ryan Merle got 10 kills, Emily Wood earned nine kills and Katherine Hill added six kills. Alexa Campanile had three kills and two aces.
On the back line, Gabby Eckles had 13 assists, with Destin VanTyle gaining 11 assists and Colleen Cargile contributing five assists.
Skaneateles (18-0) will now face rival Marcellus Tuesday night at Jamesville-DeWitt in the Class B semifinals. The winner comes back to J-D Saturday for the Class B final against Canastota or Cazenovia.
