So now it was all in place for the West Genesee boys swim team to face Liverpool Friday night, with the CNY Counties League regular-season title on the line.
Both teams were 6-0 this winter, the Wildcats reaching that mark Tuesday night by crushing Utica Proctor 96-68 for its 17th consecutive win.
For the most part, WG did not let its stars work too much. Carson Elias stepped in to claim first place in the 200 individual medley in 2:07.92, while Pat O’Donnell swam the 500 freestyle in 5:15.27.
Connor Agen went to the 100 butterfly, winning in 1:03.46, as Ian Bushnell needed 24.92 seconds to prevail in the 50 freestyle. Kevin Taylor won the 100 freestyle in 55.52 seconds.
WG also took two of three relays against Proctor. Joe Amedro, Tyler Zapisek, Jake Mullett and Mike Donovan combined to swim the 200 medley relay in 2:01.46, with Mike Ptak, Jeff Hotaling, Richard Maroney and Brendon Marks winning the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.46.
As this went on, Liverpool beat Cicero-North Syracuse 98-83, giving itself just the right warm-up before going to Camillus.
