Indoor track teams from Westhill, Jordan-Elbridge and Solvay all had good showings during Tuesday’s CNY Indoor Track Association meet at SUNY-Cortland’s Lusk Field House.
Westhill, competing in the morning session, was third among boys teams with 45 points (Tully won with 86 points), while claiming fifth place in girls competition with 38 points.
Ryan Brennan, Sal Valenti, Peter Clark and Kevin Zych teamed to win the 1,600 sprint medley relay in a time of 3:58.47, and the same quartet finished second in the 2,000 sprint medley in 5:09.42.
Jack Honis and Robert Peterson were third in the 55-meter hurdles (22.57 seconds). The Warriors got fourth in the 4×400 relay, long jump and shot put, plus a fifth in the 4×800
Westhill’s girls won the 4×400 relay as Meg Dwyer, Nicole Easterly, Brenna Rainone and Caroline Buonocore picked up a time of 4:37.88, beating runner-up Tully by 2.54 seconds. Paula Sanz cleared 8 feet to win the pole vault.
The Warriors were also fourth in the 4×800 and fifth in the 4×200, shot put (Morgan Roach was second individually) and 2,000 sprint medley.
In the afternoon session, J-E edged Solvay in points, 28-27, on the boys side to seize fifth place as the girls Bearcats had 28 points to the Eagles’ 24.
J-E won the boys 2,000 sprint medley relay as Greg Bader, Carlin Coomey, Nick Byrnes and Mike Marrero put up a time of 5:04.17, beating Cicero-North Syracuse (5:04.17) and the rest of the large-school field.
In that same 2,000 sprint medley, Solvay’s quartet of Ed Buczakowski, Matt Morse, Taylor Delperuto and John Salvagno was third in 5:13.88, and the girls Bearcats also were third (6:37.52) as Katie Roskoff, Christina Clemente, Cara Goslowski and Alison Mrowinski took part. J-E was fifth in 6:58.38. Solvay’s boys ran to third in the 4×400 relay in 4:27.61, with the girls fifth in 5:07.12.
J-E’s girls 4×200 relay quartet of Rachel Betts, Brianna Byrnes, McKenzie Williams and Kim Foltz was third in 2:01.19, just ahead of Solvay (2:04.55) in fourth, with the Eagles also third in the 4×800 relay in 12:17.52 as the Bearcats finished fourth. Solvay added a fifth in the 1,600 sprint medley.
In field events, Solvay’s C.J. Brooks won the individual shot put with a toss of 48 feet 8 1/2 inches as he and John Priano were third (79 feet 2 1/4 inches) in the team standings. Also, Jerry Santoferrara cleared 11 feet 9 inches, winning the individual pole vault.
The Bearcats’ girls tandem of Mykayla Perotti and Sydney O’Mara were second in the triple jump, combining to go 48 feet 3 1/2 inches.
J-E’s girls were second in the long jump, Byrnes and Williams earning combined leaps of 25 feet 3 1/4 inches as Solvay got fifth place. The Eagles were fifth in the shot put as Coomey and Dylan Kirk combined for third in the pole vault, clearing 18 feet 6 inches between them. Kirk and Byrnes were third (28 feet 7 1/2 inches) in the long jump, with Solvay fifth.
