Both of the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams stood up well to big-name foes during last Saturday’s CNY Indoor Track Association meet at SUNY-Corltand’s Lusk Field House.
In fact, the girls Lakers finished with 58 points in the afternoon session, good for third place. Only Liverpool (97 points) and Cicero-North Syracuse (74 points) fared better. The boys Lakers were seventh, with 29.5 points.
Victoria Sakal and Cassie Berg went 1-2 for the girls Lakers in the 300-meter dash. Sakal prevailed in 45.11 seconds, just beating out Berg, who was second in 45.40 seconds.
Not stopping there, Sakal completed her sweep of the sprints when she won the 55-meter dash in 7.63 seconds, just ahead of Phoenix’s Ashley Palmer (7.71 seconds).
Eileen Ford emerged in the 500-meter run, her time of 1:24.06 enough to pull past Rachel Putman (Liverpool), who was second in 1:25.39. Ford also finished second in the triple jump (30 feet 7 3/4 inches) as Erica Tardiff gained third place in the shot put with a toss of 27 feet 3 3/4 inches.
Meanwhile, in the boys afternoon session at Cortland, the Lakers’ Tim Lewis dominated the high jump, clearing 5 feet 10 inches, half a foot better than anyone else in the field.
Lewis also was third in the 55-meter dash in 7.19 seconds, while Calvin Davis ran in the mile and, in a time of 4:33.92, took second to CNS’s Chris Buchanan (4:30.63).
