With the OHSL Liberty division regular-season title at stake, the Cazenovia girls cross country team could only handle half the task.
Cazenovia visited the Skaneateles Polo Fields Wednesday and won over its Laker counterparts 22-37, only to run into unbeaten Christian Brothers Academy, who stayed in first place by prevailing 25-31.
Hollie Marcelle returned to the front of the Cazenovia order, covering the Polo Fields in 20:02, which was second behind CBA star Katie Brislin, who won in 18:43.
Right behind Marcelle, Malone Gabor landed in third place in 20:12. However, CBA placed four of the next seven runners in between Rae Tobey’s eighth-place clocking of 20:47, which put the Brothers out in front for good.
At the same meet, Cazenovia’s boys cross country team edged Skaneateles 25-29, only to fall to CBA 18-39.
Individually, Pat Dermody finished fourth in 16:33, not far from individual champion Calvin Davis (Skaneateles), who posted 16:16. Dan Rati worked his way to eighth place, in 18:02, while Ben Langey took ninth in 19:04.
