Two more wins would land the Skaneateles girls tennis team another undefeated regular season and the OHSL Liberty division title — and the Lakers got them.
First, the Lakers took on Manlius-Pebble Hill last Monday and battled its way to a 6-1 victory over the Trojans.
Katherine Hill and Megan Holleran led a doubles sweep, roaring past Rebecca Kunz and Laura Flagg 6-0, 6-2. Sidney Lawson and Ryan Merle had early trouble, but rallied to beat Cara Adelson and Annaliese Trust 6-7, 6-4, 6-2..
Dani Alderman and Katharina Kulik won in straight sets, as did Casey VanSlyke and Kathryn Magee in a 6-3, 6-2 sweep of Elena Mishko and Emily Barclay.
Making her own comeback in singles, Elizabeth Lane overcame a poor first set to beat Anna Purcell 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Hillary Fenner handled Alex Verbeck 6-2, 6-1, while Amitra Deol took a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Anke Von Hanstein.
A day later, in match against the other Lakers from Cazenovia postponed from the week before, Skaneateles won again, though it had to work hard in a 6-1 decision.
Twice in singles, Skaneateles got pulled to three sets, and only managed a split. Lane survived a long battle with Liz Palmer 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, while Fenner took a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 loss to Laura Gregg as Deol beat Lauren MacHose 6-2, 6-4.
An interesting doubles match saw Alderman and White overcome a rough start to dominate Marissa Barrett and Sienna Lints in the last two sets 3-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Otherwise, Hill and Holleran ripped past Hannah Koennecke and Mary Reizun 6-1, 6-0, with Merle and Lawson beating Kelly Furlong and Olivia Bowser 6-1, 6-2. VanSlyke and Magee took out Kendra Volz and Morgan Cowherd 6-0, 6-1.
