For its biggest match of the week, the Baldwinsville boys volleyball team took on Liverpool, blowing a 2-0 lead in games before scratching past the Warriors in five.
Taking control, B’ville won the first game 25-19 and the second game 25-16. Liverpool answered, earning the third game 25-16 and pulling out a 25-22 win in the fourth game. But the Bees finished strong, dominating the fifth game 25-14.
Pete Cuppernull piled up 25 assists, 11 aces and nine kills, with Ryan Shelton (14 assists) offering back-line help. Kyle Lattanzio had a team-best 11 kills, with Zach Racha adding 10 kills and Chris Thayer five kills. Liverpool saw Aaron Carroll-Marsh earn 26 kills and James Henty pick up 42 assists.
At the start of this week, B’ville swept Fowler, though it proved interesting. After a 25-13 romp in the first game, the Bees survived a long second game that ended 32-30 before prevailing 25-22 in the third game.
With Cuppernull out, Shelton took a turn on the back line and earned 12 assists. Dan Dubiel had seven kills, three aces and three assists, while Tom Hamm produced six aces. Rob Sharfstein and Thayer each had three kills.
