Now the Hamilton football team finds itself in the midst of a skid, and must pull out soon if it wants to make the Section III Class D playoffs.
Six days after falling to Oriskany 21-12, the Emerald Knights visited undefeated Waterville Friday night and took a 35-9 loss to the Indians.
Waterville raced out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter on touchdown runs by Garth Curtis (one yard) and David Reynolds (11 yards).
However, Hamilton climbed back into the game with a pair of its own scoring drives.
The first one fell short of the end zone, as John Andrzejek settled for a 28-yard field goal. But the Emerald Knights did punch it in on its next possession, Coley Graham runninng eight yards for the TD.
Still, Hamilton trailed, 21-9, at the break, and its offense could get little done in the second half as the Indians pulled clear.
Erik Miller led Waterville with 146 yards on the ground and scored twice, including a four-yard run in the fourth quarter. Patrick Zemon’s 24-yard TD pass to Brett Baumgarten in the third quarter built the margin to 28-9.
And it doesn’t get easier for Hamilton (1-3) as it comes home Friday to face state Class D no. 1-ranked Westmoreland for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
