Those accustomed to accessing the north end of the lake from Madge Lane will now find it more difficult.
The town of Cazenovia board voted unanimously to designate Madge Lane a no parking zone at an Aug. 10 meeting.
Alfred Jones, a Cazenovia resident who has lived on the north end of the lake for 33 years, voiced his support for the decision, criticizing previously unregulated lake access from that location and visitors who would camp overnight on the street.
“These people have been coming there every year for years, launching their boat there from Pennsylvania, not using the lakeside launch, fishing this lake, not putting one penny into the economy, not helping anybody protect the lake or anything,” Jones said. “I’m pretty passionate about this I would think it would be beneficial to everybody in this town.”
Madge Lane will have new signs directing people to appropriate launch sites at McNitt State Park and Lakeside Park, Councilor Sparky Christakos said.
This change is part of a town and village effort to maintain 100-percent inspection of boats entering Cazenovia Lake and to protect the lake from new invasive species.
