In one of its first events of the 2009 season, both of Canastota’s track and field teams went west to last Saturday’s Jordan-Elbridge Invitational and posted a series of high finishes.
Aaron Walker worked his way to second place in the boys 3,200-meter run in a time of 10 minutes, 9.1 seconds, just behind J-E’s Cody Stanton (9:56.2).
Walker also finished fourth in the mile (4:46.1) and helped the Raiders’ 4×800 relay team finish second in 8:47.6 as Jamesville-DeWitt won in 8:39.4
In the sprints, Dan Sandford needed 24.24 seconds to take third place in the 200-meter dash. Alex Lang claimed fourth place in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.45 seconds, while Ray Smith got fifth (11.76 seconds) in the 100-meter dash.
Lang moved on to a second-place finish in the triple jump, going 40 feet 9 inches behind J-D’s David Salbert (42 feet 8 inches). Canastota was sixth in the 4×400 relay (3:50.2) as Rice and Sandford took part.
On the girls end, Allison Lasnicki led early in the 3,000-meter run, only to have CBA’s Katie Brislin overtake her.
Still, Lasnicki took second place in a clocking of 10:49.8 as Brislin (10:38.4) won the race. Over in the 1,500-meter run, Lasnicki grabbed third place in 5:10. Denae Rinaldo was sixth in both the shot put and discus.
