Two Marcellus boys indoor track and field stars both gained third-place finishes during last Saturday’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at Cornell University in Ithaca.
In the case of senior distance runner Chris Stogsdill, it meant getting beat by a Section III teammate in the 1,000-meter run.
Stogsdill just missed out on the runner-up spot, his time of two minutes, 29.90 seconds just behind Colonie’s Tyler Stewart (2:29.76). But Fayetteville-Manlius junior Alex Hatz beat both of them, winning in 2:27.86 as he led from start to finish.
Meanwhile, Quercia had a real presence in the 600-meter run. He darted to the line in 1:21.50, less than a second behind Pine Bush’s Zavior Brown, who won in 1:20.67. Sean Atkinson (Nazareth) finished second in 1:21.15.
