Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA’s boys swim team made the short trip to Nottingham and took second place among the Class A entrants at last Thursday night’s Section III championship meet.
With high finishes in nearly every event, the Red Rams had 322 points, which beat everyone except West Genesee, the undefeated CNY Counties League regular-season champs who won with 387 points. Fayetteville-Manlius finished seventh with 130 points.
J-D/CBA had a string of runner-up efforts, starting in the 500 freestyle, where Eric Jorgenesen posted a time of 4:55.89. Westhill star Dan O’Connor blew away the field, winning in 4:36.88. Jorgensen was also third in the 200 freestyle in 1:47.25.
Tyghe Speidel came within inches of winning the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 59.67 seconds as West Genesee’s Ben Seketa won in 59.48 seconds. This came after he finished third in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.26, not far behind O’Connor (1:57.13) in that event.
And in the 200 freestyle relay, J-D/CBA again came close, finishing in 1:29.88, only to see West Genesee set a school record (1:29.76) to win by 0.12 seconds. The Brothers were also second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:17.18) and third in the 200 medley relay (1:39.45).
Scott Thieke emerged to take fourth place in the 100 freestyle (49.11 seconds) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (22.49 seconds), while Russ Farchione took fifth in the 200 IM (2:04.83) and Garrett Farchione finished sixth in the 100 backstroke in 57.51 seconds.
F-M saw Ryan Kelley finish third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.45. Kevin Koh finished fourth in the 100 butterfly in 54.67 seconds, while Jack Robinson got fifth in the 100 butterfly (57.44 seconds. The Hornets’ best relay finish was a fifth (1:45.11) in the 200 medley.
East Syracuse-Minoa’s Christian Larrabee had a pair of top finishes, taking fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.62) and sixth (2:06.95) in the 200 IM.
All of the overall sectional championships get settled on Saturday, also at Nottingham.
