Right at the end of its season, the Liverpool ice hockey team nearly made it back-to-back wins Thursday night at Cicero Twin Rinks, dragging playoff-bound Fayetteville-Manlius into overtime before falling to the Hornets 7-6.
Liverpool led 2-1 after one period, gave up that margin in the second period, only to rally by scoring three times in the final period to make it 6-6.
Allan Griffin was a part of every phase, scoring twice and adding three assists. Brad Copone also found the net twice, while P.J. Evangelista and Bay each got one goal and one assist. Anthony Lamacchia addded an assist.
Still, F-M got it to overtime with Matt Esposito earning three goals and one assist, and won it when Trevor Chase got his second goal in the extra period past Jacob Gyder, who had 24 saves.
Liverpool finished with a record of 5-16, well out of the Division I playoff mix.
