In a good test on Thursday night, the Christian Brothers Academy girls basketball team met a possible Class AA playoff opponent in Utica Proctor and outscored the Raiders 75-67.
A great start proved to be the key, as CBA leaped out to a 20-10 lead. From that point forward, as the pace continued to intensify, the Brothers kept answering every time Proctor threatened to eat into its own deficit.
Leanne Ockenden improved her total to 25 points. With a drive to the basket and a lay-up in the fourth quarter, Ockenden surpassed 1,000 points for her career, and she’s still just a junior.
Kayla Stroman also improved, earning 21 points. Victoria Johnson and Michelle Damico both hit double figures, too, as Johnson earned 13 points and Damico 12 points. Proctor’s Brianna Kiesel, already a 1,000-point scorer as a sophomore, led both sides with 27 points as Poni Sokiri and Imani Scutchins each had 10 points.
CBA had back-to-back games early this week against Mexico and Fulton in advance of Friday’s big battle with Jamesville-DeWitt. It starts at 6 p.m., the front end of a girl/boys doubleheader, and only fans with advance sales tickets will be able to attend, due to the large expected crowd.
