Boys hoops Warriors edge Oswego

Ending a busy week that included a double-overtime escape with Cicero-North Syracuse and a narrow defeat to Central Square, the Liverpool boys basketball team looked to go back on the upswing.

And the Warriors did so in last Saturday’s game against Oswego, improving to 13-6 by pulling out a 51-48 victory over the Buccaneers.

When it zoomed out to a 19-5 first-quarter lead, the Warriors looked to be in good shape. But Oswego stemmed that tide, then held Liverpool to six points in the third quarter to make up most of the deficit.

Hanging on at the end, Liverpool needed Jesse Gates to earn 15 points, in front of an attack where Jeff Chase picked up 12 points and Cam Jones added 10 points.

Oswego’s Joe Brown kept his team close with 21 points as Eric Schrader added 14 points.

Once Liverpool is done hosting Corcoran Tuesday night, it will wait until Sunday to see where it goes for the Section III Class AA playoffs.
