Now all was set for the Baldwinsville wrestling team to go after West Genesee on Tuesday night and claim the CNY Counties League National division regular-season title.
The Bees went to Liverpool Wednesday night and, though it got a legitimate challenge, still earned its way to a 44-21 victory over the Warriors.
Six diferent times, B’ville won with pins. Joe Senf had the quickest one, at 145 pounds, taking just 44 seconds to finish off Justin Rose.
Andrew Giromini (171 pounds) earned his pin over Joe Pizzuto in 1:23, while Cookie Caloia (135 pounds) took 1:32 to pin Kyle Bushnell. Kyle Sheridan, at 215 pounds, also had his pin in the first period, taking out Michael Reed in 1:42.
Now well past the 100-win mark, Anthony Finocchiaro (112 pounds) continued his roll by pinning Nate Hathaway midway through the second period. Tim Hamm (130 pounds) pinned Tyler Colbasook with 42 seconds left.
As Antonio Peck (130 pounds) was beating Mende Cukalevski 13-4 and Nate Russell (152 pounds) beat Matt Hathaway 10-2, Joe Shaheen (103 pounds) lost a 7-5 decision to Casey Guilfoyle. In other tight matches, Corey Buyck (189 pounds) took a 4-2 loss to Jon Miller and Sean Hennigan (160 pounds) fell to Derek Eason 4-0.
A huge week lay ahead for the Bees as it has both the battle with West Genesee and a trip to Cortland, plus the larger Section III Class AA meet Feb. 14 at Cicero-North Syracuse, where it will be the team favorite.
