Gaelic Knights shoot down Solvay

Bishop Ludden’s girls basketball team comes into Wednesday night’s showdown with Cazenovia in top form.

Following its Jan. 30 conquest of Westhill, the Gaelic Knights used a completely different tact to complete a regular-season sweep of Solvay last Monday in a 62-49 decision.

On one end, LUdden applied a host of defensive pressure, holding Solvay to 10 first-half points, something that Tessa Pucello could not make up in the second half even though she finished with 33 points.

Meanwhile, on the offensive side, both Ashley Cianfriglia and Bella Knapp could not miss.

Cianfriglia, held to four points and no 3-pointers against Westhill, more than made up for it with seven 3-pointers on this night and 30 points overall, which tied a career high.

Knapp made sure Solvay’s defenders could not hone in on Cianfriglia, making four 3-pointers to account for all of her 12 points. Roesch (eight points) and Natalie Barletta (six points) offered some outside help.
