Skaneateles hockey rips Fulton

Though locked into a Section III Division II playoff berth, the Skaneateles ice hockey team had endured a fair share of struggles late in January and needed a boost.

The Lakers got it during Friday’s game at Fulton, where its offense suddenly came to life in the second period and kept going until it beat the Red Raiders 7-2.

Neither side had scored until the second period, when Skaneateles found the net with some frequency and roared to a 4-1 lead.

Skaenateles out-shot Fulton 41-16, with Kyle Christine leading the charge as he earned a three-goal hat trick. Lex Johnson also had three points, with a goal and two assists.

Sean Cooney would find the net twice as Dylan VanHoltz gained one goal and one assist. Packy Jones and Seth Weiss each got two assists as Dan Tarolli, Drake Hill and Patrick Emmer put up one assist apiece.

In a key game Monday night, the Lakers would host Solvay at Allyn Arena, with second place in Division II West (and a possible home playoff game) on the line before Skaneateles takes trips to Watertown IHC and Cortland/Homer later this week.
