In a meeting of two traditional Center State Conference wrestling powers, Morrisville-Eaton proved to have the better of it, going to Canastota Wednesday night and pounding the Raiders 40-17.
That didn’t happen right away, though. Canastota won three of the first four matches, only yielding at 125 pounds when Darren Perry claimed a forfeit.
Cody Frost, at 140 pounds, gave the Warriors its first mat victory when he pinned Sam Farfaglia in 3:34. A terrific 145-pound match followed as Jordan Doroshenko and Canastota’s Jeremy Brodfuehrer went to the wire before Doroshenko prevailed in an 8-7 decision.
But after the Raiders’ Fred Sherman won at 152 pounds, M-E won each of the remaining six matches on the card.
Ryan LeBlanc, at 160 pounds, started the streak by beating Zach Zupan 16-7, after which Luke Collier (171 pounds) took 3:28 to pin Jake LaBarre.
Two six-minute matches followed, as Alex Meyers (189 pounds) earned an 11-5 decision over John Carver and Dalton Villnave emerged at 215 pounds to beat Sam Stagnitti 13-8. Orin Brouillette (103 pounds) claimed a forfeit before Barney Prince, in the 112-pound finale, defeated Joe Tiller 11-6.
On Saturday, M-E goes to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill for the Central New York Tournament, involving many CSC and Tri-Valley League opponents.
