Though the Liverpool boys swim team had lots of good moments in last Tuesday night’s meet against Mexico, the Tigers showed why it might be Section III’s best squad, earning a 100-86 victory over the Warriors.
Liverpool actually took an early lead when, in the opening 200 medley relay, James Walker, Jake Burns, Ben Hanna and Cory Spado put together a winning time of 1:48.56.
Walker would go on to take the 100 backstroke (1:00.71), while Paul Telesca beat the 50 freestyle field with a clocking of 23.43 seconds. Also, Joe Hens earned a first-place time of 1:08.76 in the 100 breaststroke, edging Mexico’s Rich DeLong (1:08.94) for that title.
Mexico’s Shawn Parkhurst blazed to wins in the 200 freestyle (1:45.89) and 100 freestyle, where he set a school record with 48.73 seconds. He also helped the Tigers’ 200 freestyle relay team set its own school mark in 1:32.93.
