The longer its win streak continued, the more attention could be fostered on the Canastota girls basketball team as it went after an undefeated regular-season mark.
The Raiders’ 12th consecutive win came Tuesday night, at Sauquoit Valley, where the defense again took over in a 51-34 win over the Warriors.
From the opening tip, Canastota grabbed control, roaring out to an 18-5 lead. That offense would cool off, and the Raiders’ defense would not stay as stingy, but the Raiders’ lead pretty much stayed intact over the last three quarters, too.
Again leading the way, Liz McGinley had 17 points, with Alicia Hibbard helping out as she improved to 13 points. Brianna Quaglia (eight points) and Sarah Foran (seven points) provided lots of help, too.
As one of just a handful of remaining unbeaten teams left in Section III, Canastota has back-to-back weekend games this weekend against Mount Markham and Adirondack.
