Despite winning four of the first seven matches, the Cicero-North Syracuse wrestling team could not wrest first place in the CNY Counties League National division from Baldwinsville, taking a 45-23 loss to the Bees.
Tony Battista got the Northstars on the board in the second match, at 103 pounds, pinning Joe Shaheen in 3:33. Two matches later, at 119 pounds, Kiel Dyer got his pin over Nick Jacobs late in the second period.
B’ville won the next two matches, but CNS recovered, at 135 pounds, by having James Segars pin Tim Hamm with 33 seconds left, this before Todd Hagger (140 pounds) earned a pin over Antonio Peck in a scant 32 seconds.
From that point on, though, the Bees dominated, winning each of the last five matches with three pins, a technical fall and a decision. Of the CNS wrestlers, only Jack Hotaling (189 pounds) went the whole six minutes in an 11-2 loss to Corey Buyck.
