Westhill’s girls basketball team made it 10 wins in a row by rolling to the title during the Alliance Bank Tournament in Oneida.
Of the two games, Westhill’s battle with defending Class A champion Indian River in Saturday’s opening round proved to be more difficult, as it won the battle of Warrior teams by a score of 48-39.
With Annie O’Connor and Carly Cooper carrying much of the load, Westhill steadily worked its way to a 30-21 halftime lead. IR didn’t go away, closing it to 39-35 before the fourth quarter, but Westhill would hang on.
O’Connor picked up 19 points, just ahead of Cooper, whose 18 points included a trio of 3-pointers. Jessica Dailey led IR with 14 points.
In Sunday’s final against host Oneida, the Warriors — and especially Cooper — put on quite a show in taking out the Indians 58-28.
Though it didn’t get away until a 17-2 domination of the third quarter, Westhill saw that Cooper was dialed in from the start.
All by herself, Cooper outscored the Indians, 29 points to 28, the barrage including seven 3-pointers, and O’Connor threw in 18 points for good measure.
Westhill seeks its 11th straight win Thursday against Hannibal, with big back-to-back league games next week against Cazenovia and Bishop Ludden on the horizon.
