Indoor track Bees tie CNS for Kirschenheiter crown

Following up on its Jan. 10 win in the weather-delayed Christmas Relays, the Baldwinsville boys indoor track and field team went back to Manley Field House last Thursday night and tied for first place in the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Relays.

Overall, the Bees had 41 points, which was the same number that Cicero-North Syracuse put up. Liverpool took third place with 30 points, just ahead of Jamesville-DeWitt (28 points).

Brian Kane and Sean Bernstein both cleared heights in the high jump, the only teammates to do so, and won because of that fact as they combined to go 11 feet 8 inches.

Bernstein also helped to win the 4×200 relay, where he teamed with Jeff Pond, Kyle Rogers and Rudy Sapp to win in 1:35.73, more than two seconds ahead of CNS (1:37.88), a big margin for a sprint race.

Jeff Pond, Brian Wisely, Kyle Rogers and Charles Parker gained second place in the 4×400 relay (3:39.56) as Tim Chambers, Nathan McCabe, Adam Pacheck and Shaun Thompson earned third place in the 4×1,600 relay in 18:51.70.

Kyle McCaleb and Andrew Hoover were fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (17.98 seconds), with McCaleb also helping Kane take fourth place (75 feet 2 inches) in the triple jump.

B’ville’s girls team finished with 16 points and eighth place at the Kirschenheiter meet. Jaimee Balloni, M.C. Cunningham, Nicole Fecco and Kristina Sprague teamed to finish third in the 1,600 sprint medley in 4:32.70.

Sprague, Ashley Shaheen, Kaitlyn Colligan and Danae Polsin got third (23:49.08) in the 4×1,600 relay. Laura Farleman cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump to tie for fourth place.
