Taking a big step in its evolution, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys indoor track and field team shared top honors with Baldwinsville during last Thursday night’s Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Relays at Manley Field House.
The Northstars and Bees both finished with 41 points, just ahead of Liverpool, who edged out Jamesville-DeWitt for third place, 30 points to 28.
Dillon McKee and Eric Sykora went 1-2 in the pole vault, as McKee cleared 11 feet 9 inches and Sykora 10 feet 6 inches for a combined height of 23 feet 3 inches.
CNS gained another victory in the 4×400 relay, where Alex Neumeister, Mike Fiume, Shaun Hyde and Jake Whritenour got first place in 3:35.84, well clear of B’ville (3:39.56) at the wire.
Elsewhere, Hyde teamed with Brandon Marlow, Ben Brown and Mike Kordek to finish second (1:37.88) to J-D (1:35.73), while Fiume, Marlow, Brown and Chris Buchanan got fourth in the 1,600 sprint medley in 3:50.89.
Kevin McCarthy cleared 5 feet 10 inches in the high jump for fourth place, just as Buchanan helped Eric Hart, Jared Walther and Alex Bottorff earn a fourth-place time of 19:29.19 in the 4×1,600 relay.
In the girls part of the Kirschenheiter meet, CNS got just as many points (41), but finished second to Liverpool, who won with 57 points.
The Northstars dominated the triple jump, where Alana Hotchkiss won (33 feet 3 1/2 inches) and Lindsay Piraino was third (32 feet 9 1/2 inches) for a combined distance of 66 feet 1 inch. Piraino also teamed with Katie Kennedy, Brooke Binion and Jamie Ryan to get second place in the 4×400 relay in 4:24.24.
In the shot put, Casey Wilmer (second, 32 feet 7 inches) and Valerie Langevin (sixth, 29 feet 10 inches) took second with 62 feet 5 inches, just behind Rome Free Academy (62 feet 9 3/4 inches).
Gina Campagna’s pole-vault clearance of 8 feet left her with third-place points. Jasmine Thompson and Megan Laternowicz were third in the 55-meter hurdles, though Thompson (9.00 seconds) was just behind Liverpool’s Harmony Cross (8.93 seconds) in the individual standings.
Thompson, Campagna, Hotchkiss and Jessica Wheeler were fifth in the 4×200 in 1:56.29 as Nicole Gillette, Micaela Donabella, Sarah Lounsbury and Mary Losito got fifth in the 4×1,600 in a clocking of 25:00.44.
