B’ville wrestlers roll past Oswego

All signs point to the Baldwinsville wrestling team needing to beat West Genesee head-to-head in Camillus on Feb. 10 to secure the CNY Counties League National division regular-season championship.

Both the Bees and Wildcats are 4-0 in league meets. While WG was securing a come-from-behind, 31-26 win over Cicero-North Syracuse last Wednesday night, the Bees were hosting Oswego and ripping the Buccaneers 48-21.

The two sides had met four days earlier, during the Buccaneer Duals, with B’ville winning 42-21. This time around, the Bees got even more points.

Nate Russell started it at 152 pounds by pinning Mike Ruggio in just 19 seconds, after which Sean Hennigan (160 pounds) took 2:53 to pin Mike Hennessy.

In between forfeits to Andrew Giromini (171 pounds) and Kyle Sheridan (215 pounds), Corey Buyck wrestled at 189 pounds and beat Shane Bartrum 9-2.

Most of the Bees’ remaining points came from forfeits to Anthony Finocchiaro (112 pounds), Nick Jacobs (119 pounds) and Antonio Peck (140 pounds), but Tim Hamm did wrestle at 135 pounds, edging past Kyle Rossi 4-2.

For an extra challenge, the Bees go to Hilton, west of Rochester, on Friday and Saturday for the Clayton Barnard Tournament.
