In girls volleyball action, Oneida had a lead on New Hartford last Tuesday night, only to fall to the Spartans in five games.
Following a 25-16 defeat in the first game, the Indians won a close 25-22 decision in the second game and prevailed 25-23 in the third game. However, New Hartford got even, 25-15, in the fourth game and, in a tight final game, edged past Oneida 25-23.
Through the long battle, Rachel Kline gained 13 kills and nine blocks, while Paige Pendleton earned eight kills and Carley Parker earned seven kills. Shannon Dowling had 24 assists. Mary Korc (16 kills) and Casey Holden (32 assists) led New Hartford along.
Oneida would fare better Friday, against Whitesboro. It won the first game 26-24 and roared through the second game 25-16, then watched as the Warriors prevailed 25-11 in the third game before the Indians won a 25-20 fourth game to earn the match.
Kline backed up her eight kills with eight blocks, as Pendleton also earned eight kills. Dowling (nine assists) and Melissa Murawski (eight assists) split back-line work.
Oneida meets rival Vernon-Verona-Sherrill on Tuesday night.
