Boys hoops Lakers beat Jordan-Elbridge

Make that two wins in as many weeks for the Cazenovia boys basketball team, whose maturing process continues to accelerate.

Following that first win over Cincinnatus in the Dec. 30 consolation game of the Fabius-Pompey Tournament, the Lakers mostly rested in the 10 days that followed, losing one contest when Wednesday’s trip to Bishop Grimes got snowed out.

Fully recharged, Cazenovia paid a visit to Jordan-Elbridge last Friday night and delivered a fine offensive performance as it rallied past the Eagles 67-63.

J-E seized a 16-10 first-quarter edge, and the Lakers spent much of the next two periods trying to catch up.

By having consistent production, Cazenovia inched ahead, 48-47, going into the fourth quarter, then fended off all of the Eagles’ challenges down the stretch.

Max Kellish, with 16 points, was one of four Lakers to score in double figures. Cullinan Williams and Ben Romagnoli each had 12 points, while Colin Hill put up 10 points. Christian McCarthy was close behind, with eight points. Tom Graf (15 points) and Bob Gallager (13 points) led J-E’s effort.

Now at 2-7 on the season, the Lakers met Homer Tuesday night at Buckley Gym, then will visit Solvay on Friday night.
