J-E voters pass Proposition 1

Jordan-Elbridge Central School District residents had their final say Thursday on the proposed capital project when they passed Proposition 1, but turned down Propositions 2 and 3.

“We are ecstatic, we are very pleased with the turn out,” Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance Bill Hamilton said Thursday night after the final tallies were in.

Proposition 1, which included the bulk of the project work and planned for renovations to all four district buildings, passed with 720 votes. Proposition 2 failed narrowly, and would have consolidated athletic fields to the high school and provided facility upgrades to sports facilities.

The controversial all-weather field, separate in Proposition 3, was turned down by voters with 767 ‘no’ votes, and 530 ‘yes’ votes.

Polls were open at J-E from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday; polls for district votes are usually open from noon to 9 p.m.

The final votes:

Proposition 1

Yes 720

No 583

Proposition 2

Yes 619

No 679

Proposition 3

Yes 530

No 767
