John P. Maurer, 83, of Liverpool passed away on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at Park Terrace at Radisson in Baldwinsville. He was born in Syracuse and has resided in Liverpool most of his life. John graduated from Liverpool High School and was a proud member of the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame. He continued his studies at Colgate University obtaining his bachelor’s degree in psychology. John completed his education at Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. A true gentleman, John was a New York State Licensed Funeral Director and President of The Maurer Funeral Homes located in Liverpool and Baldwinsville. In 1972, he was Past Master of the Liverpool Lodge No. 525 and is a current member of the Liverpool-Syracuse Lodge No. 501, Central City Bodies AASR Valley of Syracuse, Scottish Rite and Tigris Shriners. He held memberships in both the NYS Funeral Directors Association and Past President of the Onondaga-Oswego Funeral Directors Association. John also had a love for golf being a Charter Member of Beaver Meadows Golf Club and member of the Liverpool Businessmen’s Golf League. He was a member of Liverpool First Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by his high school sweetheart of 60 years, Maureen (Barry) Maurer who passed away Feb. 3 of this year.
Surviving are his four sons, Michael “Mick” B. (Phyllis) Maurer of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Daniel J. Maurer (Luanne Burlingame) of Baldwinsville, Paul H. Maurer of Frisco, TX, Neil E. Maurer of Houston, TX, his sister, Julie Maurer Cummings of Liverpool, nine grandchildren, Erin (Colin) O’Shea, Michael, Kelly, Alicia, John, Kyle, Zachary, Rachel and Samuel, two nieces, two nephews and many close friends.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt. 31, Baldwinsville, with a Masonic Service at 6 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Baldwinsville.
