Cazenovia — Cazenovia police are investigating a broken storefront window at Cazenovia Abroad, located at 67 Albany St. — which is also part of the commercial block behind which the reported stabbing occurred over the weekend.
Cazenovia College security officers apparently discovered the broken window at around midnight Saturday, Feb. 6, which was two hours or so before the assault occurred in the back alleyway, according to Lisa Nichols, owner of Cazenovia Abroad.
“The police don’t know what happened; they assume it was a scuffle … somebody was fighting and broke it … because nothing was stolen,” Nichols said. “They don’t know if it is related [to the alleged stabbing] or not.”
Cazenovia Police Chief Michael Hayes said the broken window is a separate incident from the assault, and both are currently under investigation.
The reported assault occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7. Although police have not given out any details of the incident, other than to call it an assault, Timothy Greene, director of communications for Cazenovia College, said the incident was “reported as a possible stabbing early Sunday morning.” Two students were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Greene said.
“There is no need to believe that any of the public or college students are in any danger at this time. This appears to be an isolated incident,” Hayes said Monday.
Hayes said he “believes that a successful conclusion will result later this week.”
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Cazenovia Police Department at 655-3276. All calls will remain confidential.
