What was abundantly clear in the last full week of the regular season was the different directions in which the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool girls lacrosse teams were heading.
The state Class A no. 4-ranked Northstars (West Genesee and CBA held the top two spots) were past the most difficult part of its schedule, so it was time to unwind and unload on some overmatched foes the rest of the way.
That began with last Tuesday’s 19-3 victory over Central Square, where C-NS had some early wobbles, but eventually wore down the Redhawks and put together an 11-0 second-half blitz.
Stephanie Roberts led the way, scoring five times and adding an assist. Bryar Cummings had four goals and one assist, while Samantha Tortora had three goals and one assist.
Combined, Hanna Haven and Meghan Duffy piled up seven assists, getting two goals apiece as Olivia Africa tacked on a pair of assists. Julia Alberici, Jenna Lippert and Megan Tryniski notched single goals and Olivia Massena picked up an assist.
Auburn visited Bragman Stadium for Senior Night on Thursday, and C-NS honored its senior class (Haven, Roberts, Bri Stahrr, Megan Caveny and Christie Hahn) before slamming the Maroons 22-8.
Building a 13-4 halftime lead, the Northstars had 13 different goal-scorers by game’s end, with three-goal hat tricks from Haven, Africa and Meghan Duffy, who tacked on four assists.
Roberts scored twice, adding three assists, with Tortora getting two goals and two assists. Jessica Meneilly also scored twice as Hahn and Caveny both earned goals on Senior Night, with Cummings, Tryniski, Lippert, Mallory Eymer and Brenna Duffy also putting in goals. Defender Mary Kate Bonnani had an assist, too.
Liverpool, meanwhile, went to Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium last Tuesday night and took a 19-2 defeat to Baldwinsville, unable to get much going as the Bees led 10-1 by halftime.
Kasi Cabrey assisted on the goals, one in each half, scored by Jen Kershner and Veronica Brancato. Between them, goalies Megan Evangelista and Marissa Madonna made six saves. B’ville saw Taylor Gebhardt earn five goals and three assists as Glory Johnson added four goals and one assist.
On Friday night, the Warriors fell again, 11-4, to Fayetteville-Manlius, a game where Liverpool only trailed 5-3 at halftime before the Hornets, led by Jane Cote (four goals, one assist) and Mary Trop (two goals, three assists), pulled clear.
Cabrey had a goal and two assists as Rachel Kline, Cassidy Hall and Megan Fitzpatrick earned the other goals. Evangelista played the whole game in the net, gaining eight saves.
Both Liverpool and C-NS have one more regular-season game left, with the Warriors visiting Auburn and the Northstars playing the combined Syracuse city squad.
