Having flown so high early this season, the Jordan-Elbridge girls basketball team has undergone some recent turbulence.
Those struggles continued last Monday night when, in the makeup of a snowed-out Jan. 8 game at Cazenovia, the Eagles lost a 63-38 decision to the Eagles.
While J-E was playing for the second time in three days, Cazenovia had rested for nearly a week, burning to return to action after a home loss to Bishop Ludden on Jan. 6.
J-E felt those fires early, as it fell behind 17-7 and spent the rest of the game in a futile attempt to contain the Lakers’ suddenly potent offense.
Between them, Sacred Heart University-bound senior Kiley Evans (21 points), Ellen Burr and Ashley Stec (12 points each) accounted for much of Cazenovia’s production.
No one in the Eagles’ lineup matched that, though Molly Hourigan had 10 points, with Liz Caspari (eight points) and Kate Dungey (seven points) close behind.
Needing a win on Friday against Homer, the Eagles delivered and ended its slump, pounding past the Trojans 53-32.
Starting fast, J-E was up 15-6 at the end of the first quarter. Homer hung around for a while, but the Eagles used a 15-5 third-quarter spurt to get clear.
Caspari, with 14 points, and Hourigan, with 13 points, set the pace. Not far behind them, Dungey and Aimee Briggs each had eight points, while Kelsey Ricahrdson got seven points.
On Wednesday night, J-E (7-5) is home to face Bishop Ludden before visiting Solvay Friday night.
