CENTRAL NEW YORK – Both the Cazenovia and Chittenango girls golf teams will take part in the Onondaga High School League championships Wednesday at Woodcrest.
Prior to that was a long string of league matches, the Lakers hosting both Westhill and Manlius Pebble Hill last Wednesday afternoon at Cazenovia Country Club.
Cazenovia beat MPH 215-256 as Claire Marris shot a 47 and Grace Probe put up a 49. They were well clear of the 59 from Isabella Fazio, which still beat the Trojans’ low round of 60 by Maya Gilmore.
A match with league-leading Christian Brothers Academy followed on Thursday at Drumlins, Cazenovia taking a 190-241 defeat to the Brothers.
Probe’s 50 put her in fourth place behind the CBA trio of Hana Kang, Clara DeFilipis (47 each) and Grace Catalano (49), while Kayla Mahoney-Hahn had a 57. Fazio and Lucie Hagan both posted 67.
Then the Lakers and Bears met up Friday, and it ws Cazenovia emerging with a 234-249 victory as Probe’s 47 claimed individual honors ahead of a53 from Marris.
Alea Morris had a 55 to lead Chittenango, with Abigail VanDee adding a 61. But twin rounds of 66 from Fazio and Mahoney-Hahn clinched it for the Lakers as the Bears got a 66 from Emma Stanek and a 67 from Rory Beckwith.
Back on Monday, Chittenango lost, 228-245, to Marcellus at Woodcrest. VanDee and Morris both shot 60, tying for second but well back of the 47 by the Mustangs’ Allison Coombs. Ava Hohl shot 61 and Stanek added a 64.
