BALDWINSVILLE – Once again, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls track and field team proved too much for all of the competition – and the result was a Section III Class AA championship.
The Northstars picked up 178 points to beat nine challengers in Wednesday’s sectional meet at Baldwinsville’s Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, with Rome Free Academy earning 131 points for second place and Liverpool fifth with 50 points.
Hannah Boyle, in the 1,500-meter run, put up a winning time of four minutes, 28.33 seconds, to go with an 800-meter title in 2.17.61. And Boyle nearly added a 400-meter title, too, but in 1:00.62 was second to Kate Putman’s winning 59.21. Putman would later get a second victory in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:09.22, more than 12 seconds ahead of the field.
Completing a meet where she helped earn 38 points, Boyle, paired with Jaydin Mackey, Grace Murray and Skylar Denton, helped C-NS win the 4×400 relay in 4:08.32, with Liverpool fourth in 4:20.56.
Putman also was second in the 3,000-meter run in 9:56.39 as she helped Cameron Sisk, Marissa Navarra and Elliana Ballagh take second in the 4×800 relay in 9:50.46. Navarra took fourth in the 3,000 in 10:55.16.
Lilly Capria, clearing 5 feet 1 inch, won the high jump, adding a second in the triple jump with 36′ 1/4″ and fourth in the long jump with 15’10 3/4″.
Going 1-2 in the pentathlon, C-NS had Morgan Hayes and Shannon Brown in a close duel until the closing 800-meter run, where Hayes pulled away and prevailed with 2,395 points to Brown’s 2,235. Murray won, too, taking the 400 hurdles in 1:05.06, more than two seconds ahead of the field.
Mackey took second in the 100-meter dash in 12.97 seconds, then was also second in the 200-meter dash in 26.41. Kaleigh Bosimenu was third in the pole vault, clearing 8’6″. Danielle Crivelli was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 17.30 seconds and sixth in the triple jump, while Navarra was sixth in the 1,500.
To highlight Liverpool’s efforts, the 4×100 relay team of Mikayla Greene, Janea Hamilton-Brown and Anaharie Anderson prevailed in 51.64 seconds, with Mackey, Camryn Jacob, Grace Murray and Jessica Doty third for C-NS in 52.04.
Allie Cary won the shot put, her toss of 36’3 3/4″ well clear of the 31’9 1/4″ from C-NS’s Cha’Nya Jones in second place, with Jones also third in the discus with a throw of 81’11” as Bosimenu (79’7″) was fourth.
Kaleigh Buck, Taylor Page, Eva Woodworth and Addison Ziegler were third in the 4×800 in 10:05.77 as Mikayla Greene (13.34 seconds) beat out Anaharie Anderson (13.40) for fourth in the 100 sprint. Sophia Jarosz took fifth in the 200 in 27.45.
Meghan Moyer went 7:52.59 for fifth in the steeplecase as Beatrize Gurgol was fifth in the long jump (15’7 1/4″) and sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.40 and Ziegler was sixth in the 800 and Buck sixth in the 3,000.
Meanwhile, in the boys sectional Class AA meet C-NS managed to earn 63 points to win a close fight for second that included fifth-place Liverpool (50), though they were all well back of Baldwinsville’s winning total of 168 points.
But no individual topped what the Warriors’ Ryan Hagan did, sweeping all three distance races. it started when Hagan went 4:24.01 to take the 1,600-meter run as Jacob Makhlouf (4:38.38) was fifth.
Then, in the 800, Hagan prevailed in a swift 1:54.86, all a prelude to the 3,200-meter run, where in 9:41.14 he held off F-M’s Nolan McGinn (9:42.65), with Makhlouf (10:10.24) again in fourth place.
Another victory for Liverpool came in the long jump, where Ny’Quez Madison went 21’6 1/4″, beating out the 21’3 1/4″ from C-NS’s Carlton Garnes, who did prevail in the 110 hurdles in 16.08 seconds as teammate Trevon Walker (17.17) was third.
Hagan, Makhlouf, Austin Ziegler and Aidan Maturo were third in the 4×800 in 8:50.60, beating out C-NS (8:56.33) in fourth place. Sajan Mishra finished seventh in the pentathlon with 1,812 points.
C-NS’s Gavin McAllister cleared 10’6″ for second in the pole vault and was fifth in the 400 sprint in 52.06 seconds, with Dante Melfi (2:05.10) beating out Nathan Connors (2:05.99) for fourth place in the 800.The Northstars were fifth in the 4×100 in 44.75 seconds.
