CENTRAL NEW YORK – Two lopsided non-league wins had the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team in a confident mood as it headed into SCAC Metro division action during the April school break.
Hosting Cicero-North Syracuse last Tuesday at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, the Bees wasted no time getting control on the way to a 13-6 victory over the Northstars.
The attack was sharp and accurate in the first quarter, B’ville accumulating a 6-1 lead – or as many goals as it had during the entire April 9 game when it blanked Canandaiigua 6-0.
Then the Bees answered every possible C-NS challenge, with Leo Johnson and Ryan Quinn at the forefront as Johnson scored four times and Quinn notched three goals and two assists.
Trey Ordway and Ryan Hollenbeck had two goals apiece. Greg Marinelli and Carson Dyl also converted, with Jacob Czyz taking 20 faceoffs and winning 18 of them as Austin McClintic and Caden Cox got assists.
Now B’ville went to Camillus, where on Thursday it met a West Genesee side under the direction of first-year head coach Eric Burns and showed a superb finishing kick on the way to an 8-4 victory.
All through the first three quarters, the Wildcats gladly controlled the tempo, using long possessions to stymie B’ville’s attack as it inched in front, 4-3, with one period left.
Then Czyz began to win face-offs on a consistent basis, leading to the Bees quickly tying it, going in front and pulling away, all during a 5-0 closing spurt.
Keegan Lynch led the way, ultimately producing three goals and two assists. Hollenbeck added two goals, with single tallies going to Dyl, Ordway and Dylan Wirtheim. Between them, Nick Cary and Mason Clark stopped 10 of WG’s 14 direct shots.
Completing an undefeated week, B’ville took on East Syracuse Minoa Saturday and prevailed over the Spartans by a 16-10 margin.
Building an 11-4 halftime margin, the Bees withstood a third-quarter ESM charge and closed strong, led by Lynch, who amassed five goals and three assists.
Hollenbeck had a three-goal hat trick, with Ordway and Quinn each netting a pair of goals. Wirtheim, Johnson, Judson Ferris and Brayden Penafeather-Stevenson notched single goals.
